Our Town Centre Hotel
In 1804 two brothers by the name of Morris, now a very well known name in the town as Morris Oil has become world famous, built The Albert Hotel. We know little about it's early life but with the coming of the new market immediately across the road it flourished for many years after.
Following the closure of the market the hotel became more of a public house with a number of darts and domino teams and music entertainment. By the start of this century it had fallen from grace and although belonging to Marstons brewery had become quite run-down. On viewing many of the rooms were occupied by alcoholics who just appeared at opening time and returned to bed at closing. The building was purchased in 2012 by the Hitchin Family and an extensive upgrading was carried out. Continual upgrades have seen it rise to how it is today. Much of it's popularity resulting from the introduction of an ever changing cocktail menu and a variety of different food offerings in our bar and restaurant. |
